The location of shoes in an apartment can be a real problem for a large family. To get rid of the scattered things, a great idea would be to install a shoe rack. Do it yourself with your own hands. However, special materials or special tools may not be needed.
Materials for the manufacture
When making a shoe shelf with your own hands, there are no restrictions on the use of materials. The only thing it is necessary to pay attention to the density. The material used must not only have an attractive appearance, but also withstand a certain pressure. On average, the weight of one pair of shoes is about 500-700 g.
Most often, consumers choose material based on their financial capabilities and interior.
For the manufacture of home-made designs fit:
- Wood is easy to process and has an attractive structure. Due to moisture sensitivity, storing wet shoes on a wooden product is not recommended. The ingress of water leads to deformation, therefore, a structure made of wood must necessarily be treated with protective compounds, for example, varnish or stain.
- Plywood - consists of layers of veneer glued together. It is even more convenient to work with it than with wood, but it also needs processing.
- Particleboard - characterized by low price and a variety of colors. No additional processing required. It is inferior to plywood in durability due to its friability. A kind of chipboard is MDF, which has the best parameters. In its production, linguine or paraffin is used, therefore MDF is environmentally friendly.
- Metal - characterized by strength and durability, resistance to scratches and impacts. In the manufacture of a shoe shelf in the hallway, it is better to use not solid metal plates, but pipes connected by screws or fittings.
- Plastic - used for the manufacture of budget shelves. Factory designs are made using pressing and mold casting. It is easily processed, does not require a protective coating, is easily wiped and washed.
- Cardboard - making a shelf for shoes out of it is possible within an hour. To do this, you just need to get a tight box. Shoe coasters are made using the honeycomb method. To give an external beautiful appearance, cardboard is decorated with wallpaper, fabric or photo paper.
Operating procedure
The next step is a drawing of the future design. On it at any scale product sketch is shown and separately all the parts from which the shoe rack will be assembled, including all the shelves.
The drawing must indicate the connection places of the parts with each other and all the sizes by which the material will be cut.
Manufacturing procedure can be represented as the following sequence of actions:
- according to the drawing, structural elements are cut out;
- received parts are processed using abrasives, it can be a file, sandpaper of different grain sizes, diamond mesh;
- holes are drilled at the joints;
- all parts are connected to each other, forming a monolithic structure;
- if necessary, a protective coating and decor are applied on top.
Making a shoe rack usually does not take much time, does not require special skills. At the same time, for starters, you can try to make a simple model from the available materials: fabric, cardboard, pipes. Then assemble a serious monolithic structure.
Original ideas
There are quite a few original solutions that allow you to make a design with virtually no special effort.Of course, turning or rotating shelves will not work in this case, but the originality of the shoe will be noted by all the guests.
A good option is the manufacture of shelves from large diameter PVC pipes. Pipes are cut to the required length and fastened together with glue or liquid nails. Before joining, they can be painted and varnished. For light shoes, pockets can be sewn from fabriclike an apron. Having placed pockets on top of each other, such a product can be hung on the wall even on nails. It should be noted that the pockets can be found already in the finished form, for example, in stores where fabrics are sold.
